What have you enjoyed most about the course?

I really loved this course. I found it endless fascinating to see how modern cultural trends are effected by global economic practices and the theory behind it. As well as meeting people working in the industry and seeing how they cope with the red tape and what support there is out there for start-up businesses, it was also interesting to me to see the difference in support available in big cities as a posed to rural areas, the reasons for it and the ways people have innovated and overcame them or failed to overcome them and why.

What advice would you give prospective students considering this course?

I finished my undergraduate 12 years ago and re-entering higher education was daunting task. On more than one occasion I felt completely overwhelmed by this course but the staff at the university, including lecturers, administrators and student support staff went over and above to help me. If you have any questions or doubts, there is always someone to talk to. I was completely blown away by the amount assistance available.

The majority of the assessment for modules can be tailored to your interests. Everyone on the course this year came from different educational and experience backgrounds but the assignments and projects we were set could all be brought back to what we as individuals wanted to get out of the course.

After you have completed this course what are your plans? (this could include work, travel, further study).

My particular area of interest is in arts organisation and support, more specifically in rural areas. Due to my involvement in the course, I went for an internship at the Stirling Fringe Festival/the Shindig and ended up being an assistant coordinator there. When that ends in September, I will be working as an assistant researcher on an EU funded project on arts utilisation in smaller urban areas. After that, who knows? But I am excited to see what the future holds. Having completed this course I feel as if anything is possible.
