The pioneering academies project presents senior school pupils from across south east Scotland with outstanding opportunities for skills, educational and career development.

Aligned with the Scottish Government’s growth agenda, the academies help pupils move seamlessly from school to college, university or directly into employment. While in S5 and S6, academy pupils will have the unique opportunity to study at school, college and university.

The academy normally counts as 1-column choice for the students in S5 and S6 as part of their school curriculum. It allows them to experience practical and academic work at college and university, as well as site visits and hands-on practical work experience with industry partners. The focus is on providing excellent learning opportunities for Scotland’s young people, equipping students for real jobs and developing a skilled young workforce which can help raise standards in Scotland’s priority growth areas.

Successful completion of the academy programme will result in pupils gaining a qualification, academic and industry knowledge, practical skills and a competitive advantage in securing certain college and university places.

3 academies exist for senior school pupils across a range of schools in East Lothian, Midlothian, City of Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders:-
