Ian R. McMillan (MEd, Pg Dip Ed Res, Dip COT, Cert Ed, HCPC) is a Head of Division & Senior Lecturer in the Occupational Therapy & Arts Therapies Division.

Ian is Head of Division of Occupational Therapy and Arts Therapies and a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy. The Division incorporates Occupational therapists, Art Psychotherapists and Music therapists and offers various undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. 

Before working at Queen Margaret University, Ian worked as a Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at the Grampian School of Occupational Therapy and practiced in Glasgow in Neurology and vocational rehabilitation.

Ian’s roles at QMU have included lecturer, Programme Leader, Senior Lecturer, Acting Head and Head of Division. Ian has an interest in the enhancement of the student experience through Enquiry and Problem Based learning, holds a teaching qualification and a Masters in Education. Ian supervises both undergraduate and Masters level dissertations on different topics and methodologies.

Ian has contributed chapters in textbooks and is currently editing the 5th edition of Muscles, Nerves and Movement in Human Occupation. Ian contributes to Occupational Therapy Collaborative partnerships in Greece.

Ian contributes to undergraduate and post-graduate programmes and specialises in teaching anatomy linked to occupation, the pathology of medical conditions and impact on occupation, the application of the biomechanical model in Occupational Therapy and the management of chronic pain and occupation.
