I qualified as a Therapeutic Radiographer in 2007 from Cardiff University and then took up post at The Christie Hospital in Manchester. After working clinically in the North West of England and specialising in a Clinical Education role I then took on a part-time lecturer position at the University of Liverpool in 2013. I have held many administrative posts within Radiography Education and In October 2014 I took on my current role at Queen Margaret University and now have responsibility of Program Leadership for the MSc in Radiotherapy. I have a background and interest in developing my teaching and enjoy using innovative methods to enhance students learning. In my current role I enjoy a wide range of teaching duties as well as furthering my skills, experience and research interests in Oncology and Person Centred Care. I am continuing with my part-time PhD studies investigating the experience of LGB persons with cancer.

Affiliations/Memberships to Other Organisations:

  • Member Society and College of Radiographers
  • HCPC registered Therapeutic Radiographer

My research interests are currently focused around the LGB experience of Cancer. I am currently undertaking my PhD in this area and I am keen on using Participatory Action Research within my work. My work has a strong focus on being person centered and I am keen to involve those that are affected by the issues in my research directly by providing them with a voice to tell their stories of their experiences. To this end I am an Affiliate Member of the Centre for Person-centred Practice Research and Knowledge Exchange Centre that has a focus on doing research that ‘humanises healthcare’ by keeping the person at the centre of care. As part of my PhD studies I am a member of a thriving community of international doctoral research students all connected by the theme of person-centredness. I warmly welcome approaches from individuals and groups who would like to find out more about my research.

Active Research Interests:

  • Person Centered Care
  • LGB experience of cancer
  • Diversity Issues within care

Research Methods:

  • Participatory Action Research
  • Qualitative Research Methods

My main teaching responsibilities are on the BSc (Hons) Therapeutic Radiography, The PgDip in Radiotherapy and Oncology and The MSC in Radiotherapy courses. I have a special interest in Urological and Breast cancers and have teaching commitments in the anatomy and oncology of these areas. My aim is to facilitate my student’s acquisition and application of knowledge and understanding of the processes involved in radiotherapy and to enable them to safely and accurately deliver and plan of treatments. For the post registration MSc in Radiotherapy I am currently developing new learning and teaching materials to allow students to be able to study at distance and support qualified radiographers in attaining their own masters degrees.
