Michelle’s research interests incorporates several disciplines which reflect her professional career previously as a social worker and currently as a podiatrist and an educator.

Michelle's recent research explores the use of psychological skills training for podiatrists to engage with patients on issues relating to self management and diabetes. This incorporates theories of health behaviour change, holistic patient care and the nature of healthcare consultations. Michelle has developed research within the Medical Research Council Complex Intervention Framework with an emphasis on qualitative methodology and long-term conditions. This research is funded through a grant from NHS Scotland and QMU.

Michelle is working collaboratively with NHS clinical psychologists to explore ways in which the podiatry profession can extend the current scope of practice and address the increased demand on NHS service provision.
