Mhairi Sumner is Programme Leader and Lecturer in Events Management at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Coming from a business background in Hospitality, Tourism and Events, Mhairi started teaching part-time in 2008. She further galvanised her practical experience with a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 2011 and is now a full time educator. She maintains strong links to industry and understands the benefits of ensuring that course content is relevant, aligned and applicable to the contemporary and competitive market place.

Research interests are: links between creativity and innovation, the relevance of hotel concierges in an increasingly self-service and technologically dependent world, and the study of National Days with view to engaging celebrants from the community.

- Hotel Concierge in 5* Hotels in Edinburgh.
Working in Events Management, my teaching encompasses aspects of Management pertaining to Events, e.g. human resources, training, volunteering, technology, risk assessment, contingency planning, project management, cultural tourism, impacts of events and event consumer behaviour.
