Dr Ian C. Elliott (BA(Hons), PhD, SFHEA, FRSA) is a Senior Lecturer in Business & Public Services in the Business, Enterprise and Management Division.

Ian is an experienced academic with extensive pedagogical and academic leadership experience. Since joining QMU in 2009 he has developed two innovative postgraduate programmes in the public services area. The PgCert in Public Services Governance is the first ever programme of it’s kind and has been delivered on behalf of Academi Wales to 21 public servants across the Welsh public services. The MSc in Public Services Leadership programme is the only full-MSc level degree developed and delivered in collaboration with three Scottish local authorities: City of Edinburgh Council, Dundee City Council and Orkney Islands Council. Ian has also been commissioned by a number of organisations, such as the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, to run training courses and conduct research and consultancy.

Ian is a recognised expert in public services leadership and governance who has been invited to speak at numerous academic and professional events including a Higher Education Academy workshop, two MacKay Hannah conferences and two Holyrood Events conferences. He is also external examiner at both Exeter College and Staffordshire University and has examined up to PhD level. He has sat on a number of validation panels both within the QMU and as an external expert at other institutions. His research has been published in trade and popular press including The Conversation, Scottish Policy Now, Public Sector Executive and The Scotsman.

Outside of university Ian has direct governance and management experience, having previously been Chairperson of Edinburgh-based charity Dads Rock. He is an advocate of gender equality including in childcare policy and in governance bodies.
