Nurses from Queen Margaret University (QMU), Edinburgh, have been shortlisted in three separate categories at the prestigious 2020 Student Nursing Times Awards.

The awards celebrate the achievements of the student nursing community and the staff who support them, across the length and breadth of the UK.

Fourth-year BSc (Hons) Nursing student Sarah Holligan was nominated for Student Nurse of the Year: Adult, while Senior Lecturer Ruth Magowan has been shortlisted in the Educator of the Year category. QMU also got the nod for Nurse Education Provider of the Year (Post-Registration) for Julie Churchill and Lisa Luhanga's work on the MSc Person-Centred Practice Framework: District Nursing, Health Visiting and School Nursing Pathways.

“This is a great effort. We have been shortlisted in all of the categories we submitted to this year, and mainly in different ones from 2019, which really demonstrates our strengths across the board,” said Caroline Gibson, Senior Lecturer in Nursing at QMU. She added: “These nominations showcase the efforts made by everyone to support excellence in Nurse Education at QMU. Well done, everyone!" Caroline will also be part of the judging panel for Best Student Experience, an award taken home by QMU at the 2019 ceremony.

The nominations build upon QMU’s solid reputation in the field, where it is currently ranked 3rd in Scotland in the 2020 Guardian University League Table. Nursing at the University also scored 100% satisfaction in the 2019 National Student Survey.

Professor Brendan McCormack, Head of the Division of Nursing at QMU, said: "I am delighted that we have made this shortlist again but in different categories.  This recognition celebrates the commitment among the QMU nursing community to continuously strive for a person-centred culture – something we are very proud of in the team.”

The award ceremony takes place in London on Friday 24 April.
