QMU’s 4th year Acting for Stage and Screen students have been involved in the production of a special First World War exhibition for the National Records of Scotland.

More than 170,000 British servicemen became prisoners of the Germans during the course of the Great War, with many of their stories going overlooked. The exhibition – ‘For you the war is over’ – commemorates Scottish prisoners of war (POWs) with a unique display of private and public archives, all on show for the first time.

As part of their introduction to radio and audio work, QMU’s students recorded audio with Marion Scott, QMU Voice Lecturer and Programme Leader, to help uncover these inspiring and tragic events and explore the experiences of those who returned home to their families after Armistice Day and those who sadly did not.

Private archives reveal the courage, resourcefulness and humour of four Scottish soldiers. Other documents show how POWs were supported from home, and uncover the fate of some of the thousands in captivity.

The exhibition, which is free, runs until Friday 23 November at The National Records of Scotland, General Register House, 2 Princes Street, Edinburgh EH1 3YY (Monday to Friday, 10am to 4.30pm).
