Queen Margaret University will mark Earth Day 2017 by hosting a public art exhibition for staff, students and the local community.

People from East Lothian and Edinburgh are invited to the opening exhibition reception of fine art by two award winning botanical artists. Dr Kathleen Munro, former Head of Nursing at QMU, and Lady Ann Fraser, who attended Atholl Crescent (the forerunner to what is now Queen Margaret University), will be displaying and selling 20 pieces of artworks with proceeds going to the Queen Margaret University Student Fund.

Each year, Earth Day aims to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it to build a healthy sustainable environment, address climate change, and protect the Earth for future generations.

Professor Joe Goldblatt of Queen Margaret University, said: “We are proud that our university has won several awards with its sector leading approach to sustainability. QMU places sustainability at the very core of its vision, taking a joined up view of its social, environmental and economic dimensions. The University’s holistic philosophy, not only takes account of its immediate campus environment and everyday behaviour, but also extends to curriculum development and the impact of its teaching and research across the world.”

Professor Goldblatt continued: “We are delighted that Dr Kathleen Munro and Lady Ann Fraser are using their artistic talents to create a beautiful botanical exhibition which will raise funds to support our students. We hope the public will join us in enjoying the artworks.”

The opening botanical art reception takes place on Thursday 20 th April at 5pm – 6.30pm, in the Piano Bar at Queen Margaret University, and the exhibition will also be available for view by the public from Monday 17 th April – Friday 28 th April from 9am – 5pm.
