Practice Educator Event supporting placements for Music and Art Psychotherapy


Dr Marian Liebmann qualified as an art therapist in 1979 and worked in art therapy with offenders, with women’s groups and community groups, and for 19 years in the Inner City Mental Health Team, Bristol, where she developed work on anger and also worked with asylum seekers and refugees. She has lectured on art therapy at universities in the UK, Ireland and other European countries. She also works in restorative justice, mediation and conflict resolution, and has used these skills to inform her art therapy work. She has run Art, Conflict and Anger workshops in many countries, including Europe, the US, Latin America and Africa. She has written and edited 12 books, mostly published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. In 2010 she was awarded her PhD by Publications from Bristol University, and in 2013 she was awarded OBE for her contribution to social justice through art therapy and mediation. She now undertakes supervision and travels widely for workshops and conferences.

1.30 -2.45pm ‘Joys and Sorrows of Being a Practice Teacher’

Dr. Marian Liebmann will reflect on her many years of being a practice teacher in an inner-city community mental health team in Bristol. She will highlight the skills needed and the issues and dilemmas that can arise, together with the benefits and richness of the relationships and learning that can be achieved.
