Christmas & New Year Arrangements - December 2020/January 2021

In a year like no other, we expect more students than ever will remain on campus over the festive break. We’ve worked hard to ensure that there is a wide range of support and facilities available during the ‘closure’ period from 19 December to 4 January inclusive.

During this time:

  • Accommodation staff will be on campus, with the accommodation reception desk staffed from 12 noon to 2pm each day (except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). There will be a drop in event on Boxing Day for students living on campus.
  • Support will be provided for any self-isolating or COVID-positive students on campus.
  • There will be access to food vouchers for those students staying on campus who are experiencing financial hardship over the period. Students can access these vouchers through Accommodation Services.

Student Services

  • Student Services staff will be available to provide advice and support for all students, except on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Follow up support and guidance will be available to students that need it. Call 0131 376 1747 between 2-4pm to speak to a member of the Student Services team or you can leave a message out of hours and someone will get back to you. Alternatively, students can email and these will be checked during on call hours.

  • Students will also continue to have access to togetherall for mental health support 24/7.

Security will continue to be on campus 24/7 over the period. They will be available at main reception and can also be contacted on 0131 474 0000.

The LRC will remain open (although unstaffed) to students at the following times:

  • The open access areas will be open from 8am to 9pm each day with the exception of 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January.
  • Subsidiary study rooms will be closed from 18 December until 5 January.
  • The tiers in the atrium will be open 24 hours a day. This includes 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January but there will be self-cleaning of these areas on those dates.
