Since 2007 Santander Universities have supported QMU students and staff through a variety of scholarships, awards and internships. These include generous scholarships for new and existing students, awards for overseas research or project work, internships and grants for community projects involving students.
We advertise Santander funding opportunities to staff and students through various internal communications channels at QMU. If you need more information, contact us.
We are incredibly grateful for this support which greatly enhances the experience of those students and staff who receive these awards.
We offer a variety of paid internships with SMEs (small to medium-sized enterprises) which offer students and graduates the chance to gain invaluable experience in the workplace, to work on live projects, and put theoretical knowledge into practice.
Research & Study Opportunities
Funding is used to support research projects and study opportunities which our staff and students undertake.
Margaret Hills de Zarate has recently returned from South America where she has been researching the migrant Italian communities living in Chile and Uruguay.
Dr Kath MacDonald was awarded funding to attend the European Cystic Fibrosis Conference in Brussels where she presented a paper based on her Doctoral work. The paper discussed the partnership between young patients with Cystic Fibrosis and their healthcare team.
Dr Claire Seaman was awarded £1,000 to travel to Spain to conduct a comparative study of family business associations in the UK and Spain. She collaborated with Dr Ascensión Barroso Martínez from the Universidad de Extremadura.
Community & Outreach Support
Santander Universities not only offer banking and financial advice on campus but also support our work in the local community. The provision of the Santander Community Awards also demonstrates their commitment to local charities and support of student volunteering.
Senior staff from Santander recently worked with QMU's Outreach & Community Engagement Team to produce a Dragon’s Den competition for the Summer School held on campus.
“I was delighted to be invited to take part in the Dragons’ Den event, the children’s enthusiasm for their task of creating and presenting an app was a real inspiration to me and my team so thank you for allowing us to take part in such a special day. The children were clearly having a fantastic time and I am sure following yesterday we will see a few of them on the real Dragons Den in years to come!”
Richard Owen, Divisional Managing Director Santander UK plc
