British University Egypt - information for current students

Welcome to the Queen Margaret University community. This page is designed for students on the Queen Margaret University Nursing degree programme delivered at the British University in Egypt.

The BSc (Hons) Nursing programme is the outcome of a joint validation and results in a dual QMU and BUE award for the successful graduates.  The quality assurance of the programme is supported by Ailsa Espie, Nursing Lead for International Collaborations at QMU.

The BSc (Hons) Nursing has been designed to meet the requirements for working as a nurse in Egypt and after graduation, students will complete a one year internship before registering as a nurse there.

Here you will find information about resources to support you in your studies:

Important information about registration and professional practice

While this programme is designed to prepare nurses to work in Egypt we recognise that some students may wish to work in other countries. All countries have their own unique professional regulatory requirements and no nursing programme worldwide is designed, or able to meet all these requirements. This does not mean that nurses who complete the BSc (Hons) Nursing cannot work in other countries, but it does mean that depending on the regulations in each country, you may be required to complete some additional practice placement hours or sit some exams.

Successful completion of an academic qualification is the first part of the process of becoming a registered nurse in another country. The second part is applying to the professional regulatory body in that country. For example, the BSc (Hons) Nursing delivered at the British University in Egypt does not lead automatically to registration to work as a nurse in the UK. If you want to work in the UK, you need to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Council on completion of your internship.
