Entrepreneurship and Innovation

At QMU we actively encourage our staff, students and alumni to develop entrepreneurial skills. We believe that promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism will help build an economy for the 21st Century that benefits all.  It is how we can support Scotland's ambition to become a world-class entrepreneurial and innovative nation.

The QMU Entrepreneurial Sub Strategy and Action Plan – 2024/25 aims to  unlock and foster a connected entrepreneurial culture across QMU by promoting entrepreneurial mindsets for social mobility, community wealth building, regional regeneration and national transformation.

Our strategy responds to the  Scottish Government  Entrepreneurial Campus Blueprint ( 2023) and Scottish Government  the Strategy for Economic Transformation (NSET) (March 2022) and is rooted in Research and Knowledge Exchange  but spans the areas of Learning, Teaching and Skills.

We foster innovation and enterprise by offering a range of activities and opportunities delivered through our Business Innovation Zone (the BIZ), a unique service delivered in partnership with Business Gateway. Our offering includes workshops, events, one to one support and guidance along with access to some of the Universities facilities for our staff, students and graduates. We are currently supporting around 28 startups whose background range from film and media, to food and drink!

Two of our landmark programmes are SHIFT (delivered in partnership with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Glasgow School of Art) and THRIVE (run in partnership with Scotland's Rural College, SRUC, and Abertay University) .
