Research Update
*** Prize ***
Eleanor Lawson, Jim Scobbie and Jane Stuart-Smith (University of Glasgow) won the Peter Ladefoged Prize at the 2010 Colloquium of the British Association of Academic Phoneticians for their paper "Variable
tongue configuration in Scottish English postvocalic-/r/". The prize is given to the presentation which best captures the spirit of the phonetic legacy of the
late Peter Ladefoged, and is awarded by majority vote of members.
*** International excellence ***
Research at QMU into Speech and Language Therapy, Clinical Linguistics, Audiology, Linguistics and Phonetics was assessed in 2008 as part of the Linguistics Unit of Assessment (#58).
The results confirm that two thirds of our research outputs have international significance, where 40% are either world-leading or of an excellent quality. The overall profile for the twenty research-active colleagues returned in this unit, based on a selection of four outputs each, is:

We should note that none of our research was assessed in the unit "Allied Health Professions" in 2008.
