International EPG Symposium Home

We are pleased to invite you to the 4th International EPG
symposium 2005 held in the historic city of Edinburgh, which
is one of the top ten travel destinations in the world and
offers a wide range of cultural, scenic and leisure activities
that you will enjoy.
This symposium is an interdisciplinary forum for electropalatography
and its applications in phonetic research, technology, speech/communication
disorders, and language acquisition.
Symposium Venue:
Edinburgh Conference Centre, located in the Heriot-Watt University. The University is close to the city centre of Edinburgh.
Thematic sessions
This symposium gathers researchers, clinicians in the areas
of speech science, phonetics, linguistics, speech and language
therapy, who are involved in using EPG and who plan to do
so in the future. The theme of the symposium is 'New Developments
in EPG' since the previous symposium held in 1998. The 4th
Symposium will allow delegates from around the world to exchange
new ideas, advance new techniques and extend our understanding
of the techniques in both phonetic and clinical research.
Topics will include the following:
- Non-clinical phonetic investigation of speech using EPG
- Data reduction and extraction in EPG
- Clinical investigation of disordered speech using EPG
- Technical developments in EPG
- Multi-channel approaches to speech
- EPG as a therapy technique
- EPG beginners' Tutorial/Workshop

General Information
Travel Information
The Heriot Watt Conference Centre is accessible by buses and
taxis. At the Edinburgh airport, you can take a taxi straight
to the venue at about 6 pounds in about 10 minutes; or alternatively,
take an AirLink to the Edinburgh city centre and then bus
No. 25 or 34 on Princes Street to the venue.

Accommodation Information
Edinburgh has a range of accommodation to choose from at
Visit Scotland. An on-site accommodation at
Heriot-Watt University Conference Centre is also available
for mostly single en-suite rooms with a limited number of
double rooms. Delegates are advised to make early arrangements.
