The role of the Strategic
Planning & Research Support Unit (SPRSU) is to facilitate planning and decision-making throughout the University at all levels and to provide strategic policy development and planning information to enable the institution to deliver on its objectives.
The Unit's remit is a broad one; managing a comprehensive strategic planning process, ensuring academic policy, governance, legislation and best practice to enable informed decisions on priorities, supporting the development of all research grant and knowledge transfer proposals and co-ordinating and responding to initiatives e.g. RAE 2008 and the University Title bid.
In summary, SPRSU's responsibilities are:
Strategic planning
The Unit manages a comprehensive strategic planning process integrating the corporate operations and the academic strategy with the financial strategy to produce an implementation framework that supports the delivery of the Strategic Plan at all levels.
Strategic policy development
Academic policy, governance, legislation and best practice to enable informed decisions on priorities, and to assess the implications of new developments for the institution and the institution's capacity to accommodate them.
Support for research and knowledge transfer activities
The Unit supports the development of all research grant and knowledge transfer proposals, and aims to provide academic staff with a comprehensive range of pre-award support services in addition to promoting the commercialisation of the research base that exists within the University .
Project management of key corporate initiatives/projects
The Unit plays a central role in pursuing, reacting, co-ordinating and responding to initiatives e.g. RAE 2008, consultations, strategic opportunities and University Title bid.
