QMU is dedicated to improving the quality of life and building the evidence-base for policy and practice development through research and knowledge transfer. We are highly regarded for innovative, relevant, practice and policy informing research and scholarship across a wide range of disciplines. The value of our work is measured by its impact and the social usefulness, practicality and applicability of its outcomes.

Our aim is to understand society and enhance it: to connect local and global perspectives; to inform public debate; and to make significant contributions to policy, planning and development. We actively promote synergy between teaching, research, knowledge transfer and third stream activity to achieve maximum benefit.

Research Culture

A lively and strong research culture is evident across the University and since RAE 2008 we have continued to grow with the appointment of an increasing number of internationally recognised professors and visiting fellows. Our varied Research Seminar Programme provides an opportunity for our lecturers and visiting speakers from the UK and beyond to present research papers and discuss their work.

The research activities of both staff and students are supported by a first class learning resource centre and a well developed research induction and mentoring programme.

Our research culture is enhanced by strong links and collaborations with the NHS, other universities in the UK and worldwide, industry and the voluntary and third sector

Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers
