| Professor Isobel Davidson has a background in pharmacology and a PhD from the University of London. Her research interests include the alterations in gastrointestinal sensory mechanisms effecting changes in ingestive behaviour, energy intake and nutritional status in health and disease. With the primary objective of improving nutritional status in patients at risk of undernutrition, her work extends to groups such as cancer patients, inflammatory bowel disease patients and more recently those with chronic liver disease. She has led a number of externally funded multidisciplinary and collaborative research projects, most recently with the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit (University of Edinburgh) and ETH in Switzerland which currently focuses on the role of the liver in the metabolic control of eating and the implications for this in undernutrition and obesity. Professor Davidson has successfully attracted research funds from a variety of national and international sources. She has published 50+ papers in peer-reviewed journals and has co-edited and contributed to a number of books. Professor Davidson has a long record of research collaboration and she provides regular reviews for a number of national and international grant schemes and journals
Current and Future Research Interest include effects of chronicity and ageing on markers of antioxidant status, genetic markers of taste sensitivity and their influence on oro-sensation, satiety and food choice and rehabilitation foods.
