Craig Cathcart - Research Profile

Craig Cathcart, Lecturer in Business, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh

Craig is a published academic on a range of business and law topics, and an accomplished trainer. Educated in law at Glasgow and Edinburgh and with a postgraduate qualification in consumer protection, Craig has been an academic for 11 years.

His subject areas include consumer and regulatory law, as well as generic business topics such as management and marketing. Craig is a former manager of local authority trading standards services, and his strong links to the consumer world are reflected in his roles as consultant and Examiner for the Trading Standards Institute and the Office of Fair Trading.

He also designs and delivers popular and highly rated CPD programmes on a variety of topics from contracts to surveillance law, presenting to diverse audiences. Craig has a keen interest in access to justice, and is a Director of Citizens Advice Edinburgh. Recently he has been involved in the development and delivery of brand new training and qualification programmes for the Legal Ombudsman and the Financial Ombudsman Service.

RESEARCH

Craig’s key research and publication interests include contract law, consumer law and regulation, and dispute resolution.

Queen Margaret University has a range of experts who are available to work with business, research partners, government organisations and social enterprises.

Over the years Craig has provided his business expertise to a wide range of government, public body, social enterprise and commercial organisations including:

  • City of Edinburgh Council
  • Moray Council
  • Thorntons Law LLP
  • University of Glasgow Students’ Representative Council
  • Trading Standards Institute

Craig sits on the Court of Queen Margaret University, and is a Director of Citizens Advice Edinburgh.
