Registry : Matriculation 2010/11

If you are a new student coming to QMU in September to start a new degree course, please make sure to check the information on our Induction Website.
Matriculation for Academic Year 2010/11
You will be able to matriculate on-line for 2010/11 from Wednesday 1 September 2010.
All students are required to formally register with Queen Margaret University; this registration process is referred to as matriculation. At QMU, matriculation is performed online. Once you have matriculated, you are entitled to pursue the programme of study to which you have been admitted and to access student services and facilities in the University. Even if you don't want to make use of these services, you must matriculate as any study you do on the course cannot be considered by the University until this process is complete.
All students are required to matriculate online each academic year, and this is performed through the QM:u Student Portal. This process should take around 15 minutes, so please set aside time to do this and complete the process fully.
Please click on the following link to find the Student Portal:
http://www.qmu.ac.uk/portal/default.htm
Students will need their usernames (this is also referred to as your QMU student number, or your matriculation number) and password to enter the portal.
New students can retrieve a password online.
Continuing students or those returning to a previous course of study must enter their current password. If they have forgotten this, or it has expired due to inactivity, then they can contact the Learning Resource Centre LRCHelp@qmu.ac.uk to have a new password created.
Once logged into the Student Portal, please click on the ‘Online Matriculation’ link to begin the matriculation process. Please provide all the requested information (marked with an asterisk) on all pages to complete the matriculation process.
It may take up to 24 hours after matriculation for full access to the University’s system to be granted. This includes access to WebCT and the wireless networks provided on campus.
Please remember, if your course of study is going to extend beyond the end of August 2011, you will need to rematriculate in September 2011 to be registered for the new academic year.
If you have difficulty completing the online process, don't panic. Please contact Registry and staff there will be happy to help you with any queries or concerns.

FINANCIAL ISSUES
PROOF OF FUNDING
If you have access to funding (from another organisation, employer, etc.), you must bring written proof of funding to Registry staff at the Registry Information Point, or update this information online during the matriculation process.
Students who are funded by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) or the Student Loans Company (SLC) do not need to provide their letter of award as we will receive this information directly from these organisations.
Applications for support to SAAS should be submitted no later than 30 June 2010.
SELF FUNDED STUDENTS
If you are personally liable for the payment of any part of your fees, you can make arrangements to pay by direct debit instalments using the form found here. Direct debits run from October through to March and returning students must renew their direct debit details. Courses starting in the Second Semester can pay by direct debit January to June. You can also set-up a direct debit through the student portal once you have matriculated online.
If paying direct to our bank account please use the following bank details:

Account Number - 00244979
Sort Code - 835100
Swift Code - RBOSGB2L
IBAN - GB98 RBOS83510000244979
Please ensure your bank deducts all costs of the transfer from your bank account thus ensuring we receive the complete sum required. Please make sure also that you use your student number as a reference, followed by your name.
STUDENT LOANS
All bursary/student loan payments will be made through the BACS transfer process. Only once you have matriculated will we inform the Student Loans Company that you are a registered student for session 2010-11. This will be done electronically.
The Student Loans Company will then arrange for your bursary/student loan payment to be transferred directly into your bank account within 48 hours of receipt of attendance notification or the first day of term, whichever is the later.
For Scottish students who have applied to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, student loans and bursaries will be paid on a monthly basis, on the 7th of each month, with an additional first payment being made at the start of their course.
If your bank details change, it is imperative that you inform both the Student Loans Company AND SAAS immediately, otherwise your payments could be interrupted. More details of the monthly payment scheme can be found at www.saas.gov.uk
