Registry : Admissions : Disclosing Criminal Convictions

Criminal Convictions and Criminal Record Checks
Applicants for all our courses are asked to disclose criminal convictions to help safeguard the welfare of our students. Applicants for certain programmes of study must declare all criminal convictions, and in these cases the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 does not apply. If applicants have any doubt about the effect a criminal conviction might have on their application they should contact the relevant course Admissions Tutor who will be able to advise accordingly.
In particular, these are programmes where students have a significant degree of contact with the elderly, the sick and the handicapped, and with children and young people under the age of 18. Irrespective of academic requirements, successful applications for these programmes will be asked to provide a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau, Disclosure Scotland or equivalent for entry purposes.

In these cases, students are required to apply for an "Enhanced Disclosure" to provide us with a copy of their prosecution/conviction history held by the Police National Computer. At the moment, we understand that for this service students will be charged £23.00 in Scotland.
International and European Union students are required to provide comparable information in English from their own country. While we appreciate that the process is likely to be difficult depending on nationality, students are nevertheless asked to investigate the availability of alternative forms of evidence of their personal record.
