Radiography

Postgraduate Diploma in Radiotherapy and Oncology
(pre-registration)

Who is this course for?
This new course has been especially designed to help science graduates become therapeutic radiographers.

Who is this course not for?
This course is not suitable for applicants already holding a qualification in therapeutic radiography.

What are the career opportunities for therapeutic radiographers?
Therapeutic radiographers use radiation to give radiotherapy treatment to patients with cancer. There is now a huge demand for therapeutic radiographers as there are currently not enough practitioners to fill the vacancies within the NHS. It is essential that there are enough therapeutic radiographers to help provide essential services to cancer patients. Radiotherapy is a core component of modern cancer therapy and is one of the most rapidly changing treatment modalities. It is widely accepted that radiotherapy will remain an essential component of cancer treatment for many years to come and that the demand for radiotherapy will continue to rise (Scottish Executive 2004).

In response, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh has developed this programme which will help reduce the shortfall.

Aim of the course
The aim is to develop your analytical, theoretical and practical skills that you learned as a science graduate and focus on the professional elements required to be a successful therapeutic radiographer.

What qualifications and entry requirements do you need?
A science or health related Honours degree.

How long will the course last?
This course is full-time for two years.
