Podiatry Clinics

Foot with a bunion

QMU's Podiatry school has a purpose-built clinical facilities comprising of a surgical theatre suite, a multi-chaired clinic and orthotics suite on the Musselburgh campus. In addition to the on-site facilities, excellent NHS community teaching clinics are available in Leith. .

Access to the Podiatry clincal services provided by QMU can be through self referral or through a referral from another healthcare professional. Clinical services will provide treatment and/or advice on foot and lower limb ailments. To access clinics based at QMU, contact either John Veto or May Gray on 0131 474 0000. The automated telephone service will ask you for the name of the person you want to speak to. To access the NHS community clinic, you should phone 0131 537 45500 to speak to the receptionist. Before booking an initial appointment, you will be required to fill-in a short form to ensure that you attend the correct service.

You will then be invited to book a session at one of our podiatry clinics, where you will be assessed for treatment by one of our students. Students are fully supervised by our experienced members of staff - which benefits you and also gives our students valuable clinical experience.

The clinical services available at QMU are:

'Nail Surgery Clinic' - This service is situated on the Mussleburgh campus and will be held on Thursdays, throughout the academic term only. This service will deal with painful conditions associated with toe nail problems.

'Biomechanics Clinic' - Lower limb and foot pain can be the result of structural disorders which can effect the way people walk. This service will assess for any biomechanical dysfunction and will treat or advise accordingly. This clinic is held on Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1.30 p.m., during the academic term only.

'NHS Community Clinic' - This joint initiative is organised in conjunction with NHS Lothian. Consultation on any podiatry problem is offered at the Inchkeith House Podiatry clinic on Leith Walk, Edinburgh. For appointments at our community clinic, call 0131 537 4550. This service is available Monday - Friday.

A small fee will be charged for the continuation of treatment from the biomechanical clinical service only.
