Lynne Flynn has been a member of the podiatry lecturing team since 1979 when she moved to Scotland from a podiatry post in London, where she specialised in the care of the lower limb in diabetes. She achieved a teaching qualification in 1980 at Jordanhill teachers training college, Glasgow.
She continued her interest in diabetes with a consultancy at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh, which prompted Lynne to complete an MPhil degree at Strathclyde University in 1996 with a study of diabetes in the lower limb in both children and adults. Lynne has continued with her special interest in diabetes, and is currently undertaking a PhD in the University of Dundee in the area.
Lynne has been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in podiatry, and was programme leader for the undergraduate degree at QMU before taking up her current role as head of podiatry. She currently works with the team delivering problem based medicine and clinical management to level three students. This module takes a problem solving approach to learning. She is also involved in teaching inter-professional education which brings all of the health care disciplines in the school together to study in multidisciplinary teams. Like all of the podiatry staff Lynne has a clinical teaching commitment. The teaching team feel this is especially important in that it ensures a vital link between classroom and practical learning and enables students and staff to work closely with patients on a one to one basis.
Lynne’s current teaching commitment extends to a module on MSc podiatry programme which is based on managing limbs which may be at risk of tissue breakdown, such as diabetes and vascular problems.
