Plagiarism @ QMU is a website containing resources for both staff and students that supports Queen Margaret University's approach to the problem of plagiarism in student assignments.
QMU has a "balanced institutional approach" (Carroll & Appleton, 2001) to this problem. This approach includes:
- encouraging students to understand what plagiarism is and how to avoid it
- providing support in the skills of academic writing including paraphrasing and referencing
- supporting tutors in the design of their assessments to make plagiarism less likely
- making plagiarism checking software (TurnitinUK) available to students to allow them to check their work before handing it in for marking
