- BSc Physiotherapy, Queen Margaret College
- MSc Bioengineering, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow
- Ph.D entitled ‘Knee joint stiffness and function following total knee arthroplasty’ , College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, University of Edinburgh.
On completion of my MSc, I worked in the Bioengineering Unit at the University of Strathclyde, using motion analysis to explore hip joint forces during various activities of daily living, following total hip arthroplasty. Following a short period of clinical work, I returned to the Bioengineering Unit to work on a study looking at the biomechanics of knife stab attacks. This research experience led me to a four year period in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Edinburgh, as a local co-ordinator for a multi-national study of outcomes in total knee arthroplasty.
I initially began work for Queen Margaret in 1996 as a visiting lecturer and I joined the team as a full-time permanent member of staff in 2001. I lead the MSc (pre-registration) Physiotherapy programme and am involved in teaching biomechanics and professional studies as well as research methods across the school of health sciences. In 2008, I became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Currently, my research focus involves working with staff from the Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh exploring aspects of outcome in joint arthroplasty.
