  • Diploma of Membership of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP), Middlesex Hospital, London
  • MSc Rehabilitation Studies, University of Southampton
  • HPC Registered Physiotherapist

I worked for over 10 years as a clinical physiotherapist in London, Canada and Southampton, specializing as a senior physiotherapist in neurological physiotherapy for 8 years, prior to following an academic career.

My MSc work investigated movement patterns in rising from sit-to-stand in older people and people with stroke. Since joining QMU I have continued to undertake clinically focused research in neurological populations including gait recovery in stroke; developing and establishing psychometric properties of outcome measures used in people with neurological impairments; and physiotherapy for sub-acute and chronic stroke populations. I am currently writing up my PhD “An investigation into the effectiveness of home-based physiotherapy for late-stage stroke”

I have worked at QMU since 1992 initially as Lecturer and currently Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy, teaching a wide variety of modules within the Dept. of Physiotherapy and undertaking the role of programme leader for the MSc Physiotherapy (part-time route). I am currently involved in a multi-site randomized controlled trial investigating the effectiveness of Treadmill Training in sub-acute stroke.

Potential areas for PhD supervision

Stroke rehabilitation (gait, balance and functional task recovery)

Practice paradigms and self-practice in stroke populations

Effectiveness of exercise classes in neurological populations
