- Ph.D. (Bioengineering), Strathclyde University, Glasgow.

Following a career as a specialist clinical physiotherapist in Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Edinburgh and London, I started academic life at University of East London in 1989. As a principal lecturer in physiotherapy I led the full and part time M.Sc. programmes and developed and managed the Motion Analysis Laboratory. Using Electrogoniometry I studied measurement of Scoliosis for my research based MSc, and furthered by research in the area of motion analysis in a number of areas including Knee rehabilitation, post joint replacement, and patients with Stroke. My PhD research investigated the relationship between hip and lumbar spine movement during gait at two years post hip arthroplasty, using 3-D motion analysis and clinical measures. Comparison of hip and lumbar spine movement patterns during walking between those with THR with those from healthy adults allowed functional recovery to be reviewed.
I have worked at QM since mid 2004, and became Head of Physiotherapy in January 2007. I am currently supervising 5 PhD all in the areas of Neuromuscular skeletal Physiotherapy or motion analysis and 1 Professional Doctorate student.
Potential areas for Ph.D. Supervision:
- Physiotherapy management of patients post hip and knee joint arthroplasty including exercise provision and performance,
- Management of patients following breast cancer treatment or Lymphoedema.
- Human Movement Analysis in any area to investigate Physiotherapy management and outcomes.
