MSc Physiotherapy Post Registration - Full time student

Biju - India

"I completed my masters from Queen Margaret University, (QMU) Edinburgh in 2008. This is a research based taught masters course. Even though the educational system is slightly different from our system in India, it was not at all a hectic one. It took me only less than a month’s time to adapt to the new system. The new system of education which I mentioned does not mean that it is totally different from the Indian system, rather the Indian system assesses mostly by written exams and oral, and less by assignments, whereas at QMU more assessments are assignments. But I felt very comfortable with the assignments.

Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is vital in the medical field. Even though most of the practitioners are aware of this, they are not implementing this in their practice. The course which I completed at QMU will make you an expert in EBP. Hence this helped me to upgrade my knowledge and skills in my profession, which helped me to provide a new outlook on my profession. Moreover if a student is interested to proceed further towards research, I strongly recommend that QMU is the best option. Hence a student who is opting for a Master degree from QMU has got options for his career selection depending on his interest, talent and hard work.

QMU is located in a city called Edinburgh, Scotland. This is a heritage city and a very lovely place. Hence I think most of the Indians love this place. People in Scotland are friendly, lovable and very supportive. especially all the staff of QMU."

MSc Physiotherapy Pre registration – accelerated programme
Claire Shanahan, current student 2009

"I did an undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Science and worked in activity provision projects for children for a number of years. I had always wanted to be a physiotherapist though and this was the ideal course to allow me to actively pursue that as a career and would take only a short time to get there. Due to my background in health and exercise, I found that I already had a good basic understanding of the course."

Fiona Bucknill Qualified 2007

"After completing a BSc (Hons) degree in Biological Sciences, I decided to go on to train as a physiotherapist. The pre-registration MSc program at QMU appealed to me for a number of reasons. I felt that the course had a suitable balance of lectures, practical sessions and self-directed learning, which as a post-graduate, suited my style of studying well. There was also a strong emphasis on research and evidence based practice, which I felt was essential for such a rapidly evolving profession.

After graduating, I worked in a hospital-based rotational post. Having completed my basic grade rotations, I have now gone to work on the newly developed ‘Pathways to Work’ program. Funded by the Department of Work and Pensions, this new government initiative is aimed at assisting people off work due to ill-health, back to sustainable employment. I strongly believe that the skills I was taught at QMU greatly helped me with this role, including an appreciation of a holistic approach to healthcare, addressing both physical and psychosocial factors in patient management, and an awareness of current developments in the profession such an acknowledgement of the benefits of work."
