Title: An investigation into the efficacy of a home-based physiotherapy rehabilitation programme based on motor learning practice strategies for late-stage stroke patients: a pilot randomised controlled trial.

Topic: This pilot randomised controlled trial aimed to investigate the application of part-practice strategies and whole practice strategies on the relearning of simple functional tasks for people with late-stage stroke. In addition, the viability of conducting a study of home-based exercise for late-stage stroke was examined. The study has involved developing feasible and safe interventions for four week practice blocks, at home, of selected activities. 66 subjects have been recruited into the study and were randomly allocated to receive either of the practice interventions or were allocated to a control group. A battery of outcome measures have been used to look at changes in impairment, activity and participation, with some measures requiring revalidation for use in the home setting.
