BSc Professional Practice - Nursing

This is a part-time programme for qualified nurses working in Singapore who wish to upgrade their qualifications to a degree. The programme is based on the BSc Professional Practice offered in Edinburgh, but is for nurses only. It includes some modules from the Edinburgh programme and some modules developed specifically to meet the requirements of the Singapore Nursing Board.

This programme aims to provide a high quality flexible curriculum which enables qualified nurses in Singapore to deepen their knowledge and develop a critical approach to integrated care in their application of theory to practice. During this process they will develop, implement and evaluate innovative, reflective research based nursing practice.

Entry Requirements:

All applicants must be qualified nurses holding current registration with the Singapore Nursing Board and would preferably have a minimum of 1 year post registration experience.

All applicants must hold a Diploma in Nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic or a Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing) from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Diploma in Nursing from Park Way College or those who hold a certificate or an equivalent Diploma in Nursing from other institutions recognized by SNB, will be assessed on an individual basis.

Outcomes:

At the end of the programme the students will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate practice using a sound evidence base.
  • Reflect upon learning and practice and improve clinical assessment skills and problem solving approaches to integrated, person-centred care.
  • Select and analyse theories and concepts which underpin practice
  • Develop leadership skills that will enable them to manage nursing practice in a changing health care environment.
  • Function effectively in partnership with others and respond constructively to changing patterns in health care.
  • Demonstrate critical self-awareness and identify their personal and professional development needs

Course Details:
The Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Practice – Nursing is a post-registration degree programme for nursing diplomates who are registered with the Singapore Nursing Board. The main areas of content include; research, current issues in nursing, teaching in the clinical setting, clinical judgement and decision making, perspectives of nursing the ill adult, leadership, management, ethical issues, promoting health, and pharmacology. These subjects not only meet the programme objectives they allow the development of thinking and reasoning abilities in line with the philosophy of the programme and the facilitation of learning for adults through the learning and assessment approaches.
