QMU project team

The two project managers, Susi Peacock and Simon Girdler, have a wealth of experience of undertaking project management and educational research in technology enhanced learning.
Susi Peacock
Susi, as the senior lecturer for e-learning at QMU, is responsible for the implementation of technology enhanced learning across the Institution including QMU’s Virtual Learning Environment: WebCT. With her team, she is also responsible for the deployment of other e-systems such as ePortfolios, TurnitinUK, clickers and smartboards. This implementation has been evidence-based and linked to her research into student attitudes to technology in the learning environment.

Simon T Girdler
Simon is the Instructor on the Performing Arts Management degree but has previously worked in the arts for the last 25 years. In his capacity as Box Office Manager for the Royal Opera House and the Edinburgh International Festival, he has led large projects to source, test and implement complex marketing and ticketing systems for both organisations. The last big project he undertook was to source a windows based marketing/ticketing system that would move the EIF forward from a trusted, solid solution, BOCS on to a windows based NT platform. For the last 20 years he has been very involved in training at a managerial level.

| As programmer for Scotland’s Theatre Gateway, Simon was responsible for liaising directly with the Scottish Arts Council and completed and submitted the successful bid to secure funds for the initiative. He was responsible for delivery of all the requisite documentation to track the success of the project. Currently he is examining ePortfolio and PDP as an essential part of management training within the Performing Arts Management degree and as ongoing professional development of students. He sees Wimba as vital to this process. |

Douglas Brown
Douglas Brown brings to his current position as the Lecturer in Cultural Management at Queen Margaret University’s School of Drama & Creative Industries a unique experience of working in the performing arts, heritage and fine art sectors. His range of practical management experience - including areas such as international theatre touring, producing, venue management, budgetary control, research & implementation, consolidation of resources and all areas of project management - come from his work with organisations such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Festival City Theatres Trust, the Traverse Theatre, the Smith Art Gallery & Museum, Stirling and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland. |

| Douglas' theoretical and academic expertise covers research and methodology, writing comparative studies, cultural policy reviews and arts management case studies, presenting, instructing and teaching the complexities of the cultural sector. His particular research interests include comparative cultural policy, international cultural exchange and creative management practices, which were brought together in his report ‘International Network Participation - A Scottish Case Study’. His particular skills are in interpersonal communication and the techniques of interviewing and observation. He supervises and facilitates numerous research studies into national and international cultural practices and issues. |

John Dean
John has extensive experience of lecturing and teaching in several UK universities (University of Exeter, Roehampton Institute, Plymouth University, Queen Margaret University Edinburgh and Lancaster University) as well as teaching and directing in some of Europe’s leading Drama Schools (Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Rose Bruford College, Institut del Teatre Barcelona, National Academy Rome), together with fifteen years of continuous professional work as an actor, director and workshop leader for the RSC, RNT Studio and Shakespeare’s Globe, alongside independent work. |

| For the last five years John has also been Co-Artistic Director of Organic Theatre, a laboratory of theatre research whose vision is informed by an exchange and sharing of practices and focus on the organicity of creative processes. Practice is centred around physical theatre, new writing, and multimedia crossovers. |

Bianca Mastrominico
Bianca is an Italian born writer, director and performer who trained from a very young age in all aspects of theatre craft at her family theatre, Teatro Sancarluccio, Naples, of which she was Artistic Director until 2001. Further training has included playwriting with leading Spanish and French playwrights Josè Sanchìs Sinisterra and Michèl Azama, directing and acting with Nikolaj Karpov, Eugenio Barba, and Keith Johnstone, amongst others. She has taught and run workshops extensively in the UK and Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy, Denmark, France) including numerous educational projects, and was artist-in-residence at the University of Plymouth for two years. Over the last 15 years Bianca has written, directed and devised numerous original productions, based on her own writing as well as adaptations. She is a published playwright in Italy, and is currently job-sharing a lectureship in Contemporary Performance at QMU Edinburgh.

Sue Murray
Our researcher, Sue Murray, was awarded her PhD in 2007 and has been undertaking research into technology enhanced learning in the Centre for Academic Practice at Queen Margaret University. She is currently involved in two research projects for the INC and HEA Subject area: Health Sciences and Practice regarding ePortfolios and the first-year student experience. Sue has experience of undertaking qualitative educational research including running learner focus groups and tutor interviews.
