Diploma in Drama (Distinction), Queen Margaret University
Certificate in Education, Moray House College of Education
Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Social Science, Swansea University
Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (Community Development)
Master of Business Administration (Public Service), University of Birmingham.
After graduating Andrew had a variety of different posts. These included working on a language deprivation scheme in Edinburgh and Director of International Year of the Child (Scotland). These posts led to his interest in community development and posts with rural community development agencies. After completing his CQSW he was appointed Director of the Welsh Initiative for Supported Employment. At the time it was one of the first supported employment agencies for people with a learning difficulty in Britain. He has maintained his interest in supported employment and commitment to the social inclusion of disabled people. He was a Quality Assurance Advisor with Scope, an organisation for people with cerebral palsy. Through this he developed an interest in promoting change in human services and the empowerment of disabled people. Andrew currently teaches across the undergraduate and postgraduate occupational therapy programmes at QMU. A student once said to him “Are you going to talk about why social inclusion matters, or bring the conversation round to it?”
