Public relations is recognised as both an area of activity within and between organisations and individuals and as a field of academic study. Public relations and the related areas of corporate communication, media relations and public affairs is a significant part of the UK economy. This degree focuses on the expanding role of public relations within the corporate, public and voluntary sectors, with particular emphasis on its uses within print, broadcast and digital media.

In studying the public relations and media core areas you learn:

  • How organisations promote themselves and their ideas and services via public relations and advertising;
  • Strategic aspects of communication including how companies communicate with their different stakeholder groups including their own employees, customers and the media;
  • How the media industries work, how to analyse their products and understand their audience
