Programme Leader Profile - Dr Mark Percival

This programme comprises the applied and theoretical study of the media industries, their practices, products and audiences. It offers you the opportunity to study various media institutions and the debates surrounding them, and to engage in your own media production. The programme develops your critical understanding of the rapid growth of the media globally, the diversity of media texts available to audiences, and the significance of this for citizenship in the modern world.

Following your completion of years one and two, you will concentrate on the study of the media industries and media production. You will also acquire broader skills in teamwork, academic research, project management, and communication which will enable you to develop careers in a related range of professions.

In studying the Media core areas you will learn:

  • How the media industries operate, how to analyse their products and understand their audiences;
  • How media forms have developed and how they generate different kinds of aesthetic pleasures;
  • An understanding of your own creative processes through engagement in different forms of media production
