Greg wins prize for his outstanding film dissertation

A film and media student from Queen Margaret University has been awarded a prize for his exceptional dissertation.

22 year old Greg McCraw, a student from Haymarket, Edinburgh, was announced as the prize winner at the Queen Margaret University graduation ceremony.

Greg was the very first recipient of the Bruce Thomson Production Dissertation Prize from Queen Margaret University. The prize was presented in memory of Bruce Thomson, the Information Management Lecturer from Queen Margaret who was tragically killed at an unstaffed level crossing in 2001.

Greg, who graduated from Queen Margaret University last week with a BA (Hons) Film and Media, was presented with his award by QMU Principal, Professor Petra Wend, at the first screening of his film which took place at the Edinburgh Filmhouse. Greg’s prize-winning film entitled ‘Moment’ was an emotional depiction of a man coping with the death of his daughter.

Greg’s exceptional skills were also put to good use when he was asked to film the recent QMU graduate reunion event in June. The film captured the reuniting of QMU graduates from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, many of whom studied at QMU’s predecessor institution, the Edinburgh College of Domestic Science which was located at Atholl Crescent.

Greg said: “I loved studying for the film and media degree at QMU. The lecturers were fantastic and I particularly enjoyed the video work. I hope to make a lot more films in the future, and eventually go to film school in the USA.”
