QMU actors power up to give Ross a future

Acting and Performance students from Queen Margaret University will perform in a Musical Theatre Concert at Cockenzie Power Station to raise funds for an East Lothian toddler with cancer.

In the unique setting of Cockenzie Power station, the students will share their singing and musical talents with a guest audience of Cockenzie Power Station’s workers and senior management, as well as their families and friends.

The aim of the concert is to raise vital funds for Ross Anderton, a two year old East Lothian toddler who requires specialist proton treatment which is only available abroad. Ross’s father works at the Power Station.

The concert is organised by Marion McNeill, Head of Singing at Queen Margaret University’s School of Social Sciences, Media and Communication and Drama and Creative Industries, and her husband, Graham McNeill, who also works at the Power Station.

Marion explained: ”This is an excellent opportunity for our second year BA (Hons) Acting students to showcase their incredible talent to a diverse audience in a unique industrial venue. They will also perform alongside professional singers and actors in a varied programme including a medley from ‘Oh what a lovely war!’, a Rogers and Hammerstein selection, as well as ‘We will rock you’.”

“It’s important for Queen Margaret University to have a positive impact on the local community. This type of event allows us to use our skills and talents to benefit the people of East Lothian and ultimately improve quality of life”, said Marion.

Twenty-two performers will take to the specially designed stage, created by the scaffolders, on Saturday evening (20 th Feb) in a performance that is set to raise the roof! All proceeds will go to the ‘Give Ross a Future’ appeal.

The Queen Margaret University second year acting students will again take to the stage in April in aid of the Maggie’s Cancer Care Appeal.
