Rosie receives scholarship for top performance

A student from Fortrose has been recognised for her outstanding work in the first year of her degree course by the Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh.

Rosie Duncan, a second year Drama and Theatre Arts student at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, was the top performing student in her year and was presented with the Playhouse Scholar prize.

James Haworth, General Manager of the Edinburgh Playhouse, presented Rosie with a cheque for £1,500.

Martin Lawlor, Stewardship Officer in Queen Margaret University’s Development Office, set up the scholarship. He explained: “The award is presented to a second year student based on their performance in their first year. They receive this money every year for the rest of their course - so the award actually totals £4,500.”

Rosie, from Fortrose in the Black Isle, said: “You can have no idea how much this means to me. The recognition has seen my confidence in my ability soar. It is wonderful that my joy in working hard at something I am fascinated in has rewarded me in this way. It has made a huge difference to both myself and my family.”

Rosie’s Programme Leader; Kate Nelson said: “Rosie was the highest scoring Drama and Theatre Arts first year student in 07/08. She has not only achieved a high level of attainment academically, Rosie is bright, enthusiastic, well-liked and a great ambassador for Queen Margaret University.”

Martin Lawlor concluded: “We are extremely grateful to the Playhouse for helping us create this award. Not only is the recognition of the award a confidence boost and motivator, the monetary gift will have a big impact on relieving financial pressure while studying.”
