Joining and Borrowing

Joining the Library

All staff and students are entitled to use the University Library. When joining Queen Margaret University you are issued with a University or Matriculation card: this doubles as your Library and ID card. On first using the Library, bring your card to be registered as a Library user. Your Library card is valid for one academic year at a time and must be revalidated each year. Cards are not transferable.

Your card should be brought on all visits to the Library: books cannot be issued without it.

Visiting Lecturers
Line managers of Visiting Lecturers should complete the online "Interim Staff Smartcard Request Form". The Visiting Lecturer should then present this card at the LRC service desk where it will be registered as a library card.

SCONUL Access

On 1st August 2007, SCONUL Research Extra and UK Libraries Plus merged to form SCONUL Access.

Staff and research students, part-time, distance learning and placement students as well as taught postgraduates can all apply to the largest borrowing scheme for higher education in the UK and Ireland. Under this scheme, full-time undergraduate students can apply for reference only access.

You must bring a signed application form from your home institution, your home library card and a passport photograph. You will be issued with a Library card within a few days. If you are a full-time student from another SCONUL Access member institution you may use the library for reference purposes only. You must bring a SCONUL Access card from your home institution, your home Library/ID card, and you must sign the Visitors Book at the Service Desk.

For full details of the SCONUL Access scheme see their website.
