Information for Distance Learners - eJournals
What are eJournals?
Any journal that is available over the internet can be called an ‘electronic journal’ or ‘eJournal’. In some cases, print equivalents exist; in others they do not. There are eJournals that are freely available but the majority require payment of a subscription or charge.
An eJournal may be an exact copy of the print version or include all of the print material plus extra information only available in electronic form or be available only electronically.
How to access eJournals
All of the e-journals accessible by QMU staff and students are listed on the LRC e-journals web page.
To access e-journals off campus it is recommended that you first login to the Remote Desktop which allows you to work as if you were on campus.
As with other electronic resources, e-journals can be accessed by logging into the resource homepage via the Shibboleth login and entering your institutional details. This link may also be called "Institutional" or "Federation" login.
How to find articles by subject or keyword
To find the full-text of articles online, you must first undertake a literature search using one of the LRC’s databases (e.g. Business Source Premier, CINAHL, PsycINFO etc) and identify relevant articles that you would like to view. Some databases allow you to link directly to the full-text whereas others only include abstracts of articles. Where there is no direct link from the database, click on the LinkSource icon for further information.
How to access articles
Most full-text journal articles are available as PDFs. Therefore, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your PC. It is available to download for your laptop or home PC free of charge at:

How to print articles from a pdf file
Use the print icon within the PDF file to print the full-text and graphics of an article.

If you have problems printing an article or only blank pages appear, it is likely that you have used the print icon in your browser.
Do not attempt to print from the Remote Desktop as this will send the document to a printer at Newcraighall. Instructions on how to save from the Desktop are available from Information Services.
Interactive Tutorials
The eJournals explained tutorial explains the different systems and approaches you might encounter in more detail. Once you have worked through the presentation, test yourself with the quiz.
