Information Services - Eduroam

Eduroam is a technology that enables a
person from a participating organisation to use their normal network
login credentials to access the network while visiting another
institution that is also a member of Eduroam. Institutions in the
UK which are part of Eduroam can found on the JANET website here.
Eduroam is a federation
of many institutions worldwide, and a full list can be found
here.
Click on the maps or use the links on the right hand side of the page.
Eduroam for QMU staff
Before visiting any Institution,
QMU staff should first check if Eduroam is
available by using the above links. Staff should then set up their
laptops for Eduroam access by following the instructions for their
operating system:
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Users must install the Verisign intermediate
certificate found here (highlight & right-click to save) Wlan
intermediate certificate. Instructions on how to do this can be
found
here.
Once the connection has been set-up, QMU staff should use their normal username and password as outlined in
the instructions.
The Eduroam connection should be
tested at QMU before visiting another Eduroam institution.
There are currently no instructions available for Macintosh
users. MAC OS version 10.3 and above should work however. MAC users should set
the ssid to be Eduroam and the security type should be wpa enterprise or
wpa2 enterprise. When entering your username it should be of the form username@qmu.ac.uk.
Eduroam for visitors
QMU offers the JRS tier 2 service
supporting WPA & WPA2. For all http traffic a transparent proxy is in
place for logging and malware detection. NAT is used on the wireless
network.
If you have tested the connection at your
home institution then it should work at QMU. If you have any connection
issues please contact your home institution in the first instance.
Usage of the QMU network is governed by
our IT regulations. Usage of the Janet
Network is governed by the JANET
Acceptable Use Policy.
All support issues for Eduroam should be directed
to the user's home institution.
