Information Services - SSL Certificates at QMU

Information Services secures some of QMU's websites with SSL Certificates. These certificates encrypt traffic between your computer and QMU's web servers making it difficult for third parties to intercept and read your personal information.
In some cases accessing these sites with certain browsers may result in an error saying the site is not trusted. Despite this error there is nothing to worry about - it just means that your web browser is not yet configured to trust the Certificate Authority which issues QMU's certificates.
This page contains downloads and instructions which will allow you to set up your home computers to trust QMU's certificates and browse secure QMU websites without any problems. You can choose from the following downloads:
| SSLCertificates@QMU.pdf |
A brief overview of QMU's use of certificates. |
| TERENASSLCA.crt |
This is the first of two certificates you might need. Windows (Internet Explorer) and Mac (Safari) users should either click this link or save the linked file then double-click it to start a wizard which will install the certificate into the Operating System. Firefox users should click the link then check "Trust this CA to identify websites" then click OK. Note that to use Citrix Remote Desktop from Firefox the certificate needs to be installed in both Firefox and Internet Explorer (or Safari on Macs). |
| UTNAddTrustServer_CA.crt |
This is the second certificate you might need. If you have certificate related problems make sure you have installed both certificates. Use the same instructions as above. |
In addition to following the above instructions note that Operating Systems periodically release root certificate updates and you should regularly update your computer to stay up-to-date with these changes.
