Applying for an undergraduate programme

Applications for our undergraduate courses should be made online via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). This is a centralised application system, which allows students to apply to up to five different universities/courses in the UK on a single application.

UCAS Course Search
Firstly it is important to research your options, and see which universities and colleges offer courses that might be of interest to you. This is a vital stage of the application process, as you can initially only apply to a maximum of five universities/courses, so it is best to find out as much as you can before you make a commitment.

UCAS Apply
The UCAS Apply web page should be your first port of call when you are ready to start the application process. Here you can find lots of useful information and advice about completing your application, as well as an overview of the whole process.

UCAS Track
Once your application is complete, you may check the status of your application at any time via UCAS Track. Here you will be able to keep up-to-date with the progress of your application and reply to any offers you have received.

While it is possible to apply directly through UCAS as an individual, you may be guided through the application process and given assistance by your school or college. If your school does not offer this service, it may be possible to use one of our agents or local representatives. Please check your country page for a list of representatives in your country.

When to apply

UCAS can start receiving applications for entry in Autumn 2014 from 1 September 2013. Home and EU applications should reach UCAS by 15 January 2014 and the deadline for international applicants is 30 June 2014. We would encourage you to apply as early as possible, having made a careful and considered choice, as course places will start to fill from January. Late submissions from Home and EU applicants are accepted by UCAS, after 15 January 2014, but they are considered at the University’s discretion and there is no guarantee that they will be given the same level of consideration as the applications we receive earlier.

How to pay for your application to UCAS

Your application fee should be paid online using a credit or debit card. If you are applying through your school or college it may be possible for the institution to be invoiced for the fee by UCAS.

Please note that all offer letters will be sent to you by email, so be sure to enter your current email address on your application form and to check this email regularly.

Applying for a taught postgraduate programme

For all of our taught postgraduate courses, applications can be made directly to QMU using the online application process. To apply ONLINE, first choose your course from the postgraduate courses list and then select 'Apply Now' on the course information page.

Alternatively, please request an application pack from Admissions.

When to apply

We will usually accept applications for postgraduate courses at any time, though please be aware that some courses have an application deadline. You should check the relevant course pages for details. If no application deadline is listed, we would advise you to apply by May for courses starting in September and by October for courses starting in January. This should give you adequate time to receive a decision and begin the necessary preparations. Please note that students applying for any of our scholarships should be holding an offer by the scholarship deadline, so do bear this in mind.

How to pay for your application

At Queen Margaret University, we do not charge an application fee for any of our courses. However, you should note that successful applicants may be asked to pay a tuition fee deposit of £1,000 at a later stage in order to secure their place and to assist with their visa application.

Please note that all offer letters will be sent to you by email, so be sure to enter your current email address on your application form and to check this email regularly.

Applying for a research postgraduate programme

Applications for PhD and MPhil programmes are made directly to the University's Research Degrees Office. You can find out more in the dedicated Research section of our website.
