How to go about making sure your tuition fees are paid correctly, and how your Student Loan works.

It is each student's responsibility to ensure that their tuition fees are paid in full. Some students will access funding and sponsorship to pay these fees. Other students pay themselves, or their families pay for them.

PROOF OF FUNDING

If you have access to funding (from another organisation, employer, etc.), you must bring written proof of funding to Registry staff when you collect your Student ID Smartcard.

Students who are funded by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) or the Student Loans Company (SLC) do not need to provide their letter of award as we will receive this information directly from these organisations.

Applications for support to SAAS should be submitted no later than 30 June 2010.

SELF FUNDED STUDENTS

If you are personally liable for the payment of any part of your fees, you can make arrangements to pay by direct debit instalments using the form found here. Direct debits run from October through to May and returning students must renew their direct debit details. Courses starting in the Second Semester can pay by direct debit January to August. You can also set-up a direct debit through the student portal once you have matriculated online.

Students can also make 8 monthly payments (from October to May) by setting up a recurring debit/credit card through the QM:u Student Portal.

If paying direct to our bank account please use the following bank details:

Account Name – Queen Margaret University – No 1 Account
Account Number - 00244979
Sort Code - 835100
Swift Code - RBOSGB2L
IBAN - GB98 RBOS83510000244979

Please ensure your bank deducts all costs of the transfer from your bank account thus ensuring we receive the complete sum required. Please make sure also that you use your student number as a reference, followed by your name.

STUDENT LOANS

Apply online for your student finance now: www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance. The application deadline was 31 May but Student Finance England will do all they can to ensure you have your funding at the start of term.

All bursary/student loan payments will be made through the BACS transfer process. Only once you have matriculated will we inform the Student Loans Company that you are a registered student for session 2011-12. This will be done electronically.

The Student Loans Company will then arrange for your bursary/student loan payment to be transferred directly into your bank account within 48 hours of receipt of attendance notification or the first day of term, whichever is the later.

For Scottish students who have applied to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, student loans and bursaries will be paid on a monthly basis, on the 7th of each month, with an additional first payment being made at the start of their course.

If your bank details change, it is imperative that you inform both the Student Loans Company AND SAAS immediately, otherwise your payments could be interrupted. More details of the monthly payment scheme can be found at www.saas.gov.uk
