tropEd & erasmus mundus

tropEd is a global network of 27 higher education institutions in international health.

tropEd provides postgraduate opportunities for education and training contributing to sustainable development and jointly offers a Masters programme in International Health. The MSc International Health offered at IIHD has been recognised as one which qualifies for the TropEd programme in International Health since the commencement of the association in 1997.

Two routes are possible:

  • you can register as a "home" student with QMU to follow the tropEd Masters, which requires you to a) complete the four core modules in semester 1 for the PG Certificate International Health and b) complete the taught course requirement by taking a combination of advanced modules with other topEd higher education institutions (www.troped.org) before c) doing the dissertation at QMU. For further information, ask to speak to the IIHD tropEd Representative.
  • as a postgraduate student following any of the Masters programmes at IIHD, course participants can opt (subject to the approval of the Course Committee) to take selected advanced modules (equivalent to QMU elective modules) from the topEd menu (see the list at www.troped.org) and successfully complete these in any of the tropEd member institutions which are part of the association.

Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education that aims to enhance the quality of European higher education and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with third countries. http://ec.europa.eu/education/index_en.htm

IIHD Involvement

As founder members of the tropEd network, we have worked together, since the mid 1990s, with prestigious European institutions for higher education in international health to provide high quality postgraduate opportunities. IIHD is a ‘home institute’ for students interested in following the tropEd MSc International Health and offers short courses to tropEd students from other higher education institutions who are members of this network.

European Master of Science Programme in International Health

With 9 other institutions from Europe, Mexico, Thailand and South Africa, IIHD offers the European Master of Science Programme in International Health. This  is a one year, full-time study programme, which offers the following five tracks allowing the student to specialise: sexual and reproductive health; health systems, policy and management; health research methods, disease control; and child health. Students become qualified to identify and critically analyse key factors shaping the health and well-being of populations in low- and middle-income countries and to formulate effective and appropriate responses to complex health-related issues.

This programme has been selected by the European Commission Erasmus Mundus Programme to allow students from across the world, including European students, and scholars to apply for scholarships to study and shared experience on this programme.  See the following link for more details on this programme: http://erasmusmundus.troped.org/
