Aims of the course
To provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to:

  • tackle a specific problem relevant to current workplace or future career
  • review the research base relevant to that problem
  • identify the best available sources of data to address the problem, either those from the specific context in question, or from comparator contexts
  • analyse data and select the appropriate formats in which to present results
  • reach an evidence based conclusion as to the best way forward - policy options or practical steps to resolve the problem

Who should attend?
This course is available to those who have taken one of the other short courses (Economic Evaluation of Health Care or Economics of Health Systems) and would like to take longer to assimilate the material, apply it to a specific relevant issue and solicit expert advice from the short course team on that issue..

Provisional programme
Each participant will receive one-to-one advice in three one hour sessions during the week which will include direction as to how best to use the intervening time to research literature and data bases and to structure their approach to deciding how to proceed on the issue. A final session on Friday afternoon will enable participants to share their learning over the week.
