Health Related Research

 

The course aim is to strengthen skills in the critical analysis of research methods and their application. To develop, conceptualise and problematise research knowledge in international health and development.

The content includes:

  • research approaches and methods: epistemological issues; the natural and ethnographic, qualitative and quantitative approaches; historical, descriptive, experimental/quasi-experimental, participatory approaches
  • diversity and inequality in research: Gender and race
  • research ethics: protection of human subjects, confidentiality and anonymity
  • eliability and validity: of research tools
  • critical appraisal
  • surveys and studies
  • introduction to epidemiology
  • interviews and focus group discussions

Credit Rating - 15 SCOTCAT/5 ECTS
