Nursing - Student Case Studies

Graduate 2008: Lesley Halliday
Course: BSc (Hons) Nursing

Before coming to QMU to study for a BSc (Hons) Nursing, I worked as a civil servant for 18 years and also taught English in China whilst she travelled around the world for three years. On returning to the UK, I decided to embark on nursing studies as I had always had an interest in health and it offered a flexible career.

As a mature student, I rose to the challenges presented by learning for the first time in a long time, but succeeded with ease. Along with my studies and the placements that I went on, I was also recently involved in the planning and management of the Biennial Nurses Question Time held on campus.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at QMU and was very impressed by the levels of support that I got from staff.

Graduate 2008: Antony Powell
Course: Graduate Diploma in Nursing

I had worked in finance for 15 years and decided that I wanted a new challenge. After the birth of my kids, I became facinated by midwifery and decided that my new challenge was to become a nurse!

Anthony was extremely enthusiastic about QMU and the course and was sad to be leaving when interviewed at his recent graduation - he's even contemplating doing a Masters degree now.

His lecturers have said that his classmates benefitted from his maturity and life experience and he will be an asset to the nursing profession.
